Mountaineering

The exceptional conditions of the Pyrenees geograpy has led to the establishment of several winter resorts which have runs of excellent quality -scene of important competitions- and a full range of the most modern technical means. A comfortable stay is guaranteed by a large number of hotels in the resorts themselves or in nearby villages.

There are perfect mountaineering opportunities in view of the villages, valleys and beautiful scenary there. Apart from the attractive heights dominating the valleys of Anso, Hecho and Canfranc, the mountaineer's paradise lies between the valleys of Tena and Benasque where there are many peaks with heights of over 3.300m. In Tena valley Sallent de Gallego should be noted for the ascent of the cirque of Piedrafita with its tall peaks: El Balaitus, Frondella and La Gran Facha. Also noteworthy is the village of Panticosa with a health resort as the point of departure on the way to reach the numerous peaks and lakes which form the cirque of the same name: the peaks of El Infierno (hell's peaks), tendenera, Sabacos, Piriecho, Zarre, Garmonegro, Aguales... and the lakes Brazato, Bramatuero, Bachimana,Azuels, etc.

Broto valley with the villages of Broto and Torla lies in the attractive vicinity of Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park, in the shadow of the towering heights of Taillon, Mondaruego, Roland's breach, Cilindro, Sum de Ramond and Monte Perdido. The last mentioned peak can also be reached from Bielsa via Pineta valley. Within the Province of Huesca, finally, there is the wildest, most rugged and attractive part of the Pyreneers for the mountaineer: Benasque valley.

Its branches called Estos, Vallibierna and Alto Esera include the highest peaks of the chain: Aneto and Posets. Lastly, in the Catalonia Pyrenees -specifically from Aran valley and from the different valleys of Pallars and Ribagorza and Alto Segre-, there are good possibilities to climb Els Encantats, El Montarto, Peguera, Biciberri, Pica de Estats, Sotillo Monteixo and others.
