Banyoles Rowing

Banyoles, 20km north of Girona, is widely known for its estany (lake), the venue for the rowing events in the 1992 Olympics, it's pleasant place for an excursion afloat and a lovely perimeter walk. Half-hour boat trips (March-December, Tuesday-Sunday, 10am-7pm) leave every hour from the easter shore, where you can also rent rowing boats. You can take the plunge at designated swimming areas. The lake perimeter has a clearly marked footpath (8km) that rarely gets busy, which you can also follow by bike.

The experience of having hosted the 1992 Games provides Banyoles with qualified organizers and strong teams of human resources, reinforced by the involvement of the members of Club Natacio Banyoles and the residents of Banyoles. In 2004, Banyoles hosted the World Rowing Championships for Junior and Senior Non Olympic events. Banyoles has become the meeting point for world rowing and a training centre for many crews from around the world.
